“I hope I didn’t bore you too much with my life story.” – Elvis Presley
Or how I met Elvis and learned to love Christian Metal:
“I love your Nose”
“Oh really? Thanks man! What do you love about it?”
“It makes a statement on an already handsome face…”
“Aww, thanks again! And what statement is that?”
“You’re willing to have fun and make people happy!”
“You get IT Elvis!”, and I already had “IT” in my hand…
“I’d have thought the King already had a Nose ”
Elvis, as we all know, is GOD…I say IS because he’s probably still living somewhere, sending out his mojo. In fact, I met the King or a couple of his manifestations at Fry’s Electronics.
Elvis was named by his African mother after she watched one of his last concerts on TV. She was mesmerized. One of her few instances of watching TV in the 70’s. An instance where she immediately KNEW she had to name her upcoming, newborn son Elvis. Elvis was manning a booth, ready to answer questions about some electronic thing or another, reading Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” behind the table standee of marketing schwag.
About 10! minutes into “OMG-THIS-IS-AMAZING-LIFE-THE-UNIVERSE-AND-EVERYTHING-ELSE-WE-COULD-TALK-FOR-HOURS-SINCE-WE’RE-BOTH-SO-IN-TUNE-WITH-THE-PRESENT-MOMENT” banter about Why?/Community/EDM/Burning Man/LOVE/Energy/Etc., we hear:
“What is this, a Rudolph convention? Why didn’t I get the memo?”
“Well, you got it now and you’re late to the party Bro!”
BAM, another Nose goes out.
And that’s how I met Christian, who also lives in reality.
The real reality. The disconnected reality away from everything and connected to all. Or at least that’s the story he told us, once he got the Nose on.
Christian followed his dream too and now finds himself the lead guitarist for Circle II Circle, the heavy metal band that saved his life 20 years ago. The band who had an album, 20 years ago, that he listened to over and over and over and over in Camaro and that got him through the process of giving up drugs and alcohol and put him on the path to recovery. He dreamed that he’d one day be in that band, and he kept dreaming that ridiculous dream, never letting go. In 2012, after a maze of amazing synchronicity, he found himself IN the band…touring the world.
He went from the outside to the inside.
Because, “Dreams CAN become reality. If you think it, you can do it. Nothing is impossible, nothing. Well, maybe becoming a potato is impossible…I mean, you COULD become a potato I guess…but fuck man, why would you want to do that?”
Because, “I wake up every day, wondering how I got here giving out love to thousands and making people happy and doing exactly what I wanted to do with the best people who’ve inspired me and saved my life!”
LET ME REMIND YOU THAT CHRISTIAN WAS SAYING THIS, NOT YOUR HUMBLE HIPPIE COWBOY NARRATOR.
“It’s about being present and knowing yourself and understanding that YOU have the power to create your reality…”, Christian told Elvis.
“Every time I think that I’m getting old, and gradually going to the grave, something else happens.” – Elvis Presley
Then OUR Elvis in Fry’s tells us how this (30! minutes of awesome) is exactly what he needed to hear. He’s been feeling pulled to follow his dream of MUSIC and PERFORMING and has been dreaming of it nightly.
Not knowing what to do. Holding back. Unsure.
