Read more...At the end of this day, I'm full of reflections. These insights are coming at a rapid pace now, very rapid indeed. Today I had one that I want to share...for some of you, this may be old news. Even for me, it's certainly not revelatory. However, the simplicity of the thought is matched by its brevity this time:

There's been so much happening, that it's really too much to keep up with. I honestly wish there was an easy way to strap a GoPro 1080p camera to my head without looking like a cyborg, because that's what's needed: a live camera just above my browline, every time I go out in public :) ..it really IS that silly. Yesterday AND the day before, I've given out 14 noses and every time, it's like a opening a door to sunshine! Again, I know this may sound like the rantings of a "crazy" person, but it's not. My gal is usually right there next to me when it happens and she can see it too. I can't get through...

I'm in Santa Cruz once every couple of months on business...in fact, the last time I was down there for the day, THIS GALLERY included a number of images from the downtown SC area. It seems that also, every time I'm there, the Universe just opens up and like a punch in the jaw, it knocks me out. Maybe it's the laid back, surfer, easy-living, decidedly "hippie" feel of the area? :) As I'm leaving a bookstore, a block outside three men are playing roots music and had a crowd lined up across their sidewalk. Please meet "The F*ck Yeahs" (I found this video of them elsewhere in California) One...

Poised on the cusp of hope and renewal, Vallejo, CA. is a wonderful little city. Here's an example: On December 1st, a local community pillar, Mario Saucedo hosted his 4th Annual World Aids Day Observation Block Party. He's been tireless in his efforts to raise awareness about the threat of AIDS and the need for youth education around the subject. It was a fine event that brought out over two hundred locals to support the event with their contributions of time and energy :) I dropped in around the magic hour and met a few amazing people. The nose, once again, opened doors that I wouldn't...

If you look at this shot and see what we see, you'd be completely correct. THIS is a face of joy, jubilance, laughter and squee! Kelee was our cashier at Trader Joes this evening and embodies everything WhyTheNose stands for...and she floored us in a minute flat :) From her bouncing up thru the frozen food aisle with a torrents of giggles while telling me, "I love your nose, it rocks!", to her bubbly disposition while adding up our cart, to when she squealed as I gave her the nose....110% PERFECTLY AWESOME :) You never ever know where magic will come and just smack you in the face with a huge...

I love Farmer's Markets. They're a centerpiece for community and local business support. This morning, my girlfriend and I walked 6 blocks downhill to grab a few veggies and take in the scene (of course I wore my nose) Almost immediately, the nose began working magic, with a vendor yelling over to us how he liked people who "clown around" and asking how HE could get one :) I walked over and in a less-than-graceful arc, pulled one from my bag. This man just understood what the nose represented, no words needed..he was all laughs... We bought some of his homemade bread and left him with...

In the last two days, I took a few shots in Santa Cruz and San Francisco. It's no exaggeration to say that the nose is magic and opens doors you'd never otherwise notice. Every one of these shots has a story and made these people's days a little bit brighter :)

This is Will, a security guard at Barnes and Noble. He asked me, quite plainly and with a large and warm smile, "How do I get one of those noses?" Easy Will, let me reach in my bag :)
Read more...Late Friday night, I ran to a nearby Chinese spot for takeout. They were very busy, I had to wait (OK b/c their food is superb) and took a seat next to a woman who was also waiting. That was one of those moments when it's all clear and the entire light of the expanse hits me and it's radiant and I can see why I'm on this path. A 20 minute conversation started with her while waiting for takeout, as she asked me..."So, why the nose?" (perfect, huh?) I had the opportunity to completely change her paradigm...she left amazed and happy and that much closer to the divine we all share. She was just...
